Stairway to Heaven

Here is one of my first charcoal drawings that we had to do UPSIDE DOWN! My mind was playing tricks on me but it was about identifying negative spaces and what my teacher loves to call VALUE. This was originally a photograph that we had to convert into charcoal. I thought it was a very romantic piece and yet, challenging at the same time.

X-PHOBIA

So for my Graphic Design class our theme is the Alphabet. Everything we do has to incorporate the alphabet or at least ONE letter. This week's project was to work on a large-scale and create an event poster.

X-PHOBIA is a day dedicated to facing one of your fears. "X" represents YOUR phobia (mine is ACRO-phobia), but the letter "X" alone can also symbolize a variety of things. In this case, it is the idea of eliminating your phobia.

This was one of the first times I used Photoshop and Illustrator and I spent several nights sleeping at 3am, but I think it all paid off. I'm happy with the end result and my instructor gave all positive comments. I'm going to pat myself on the back for this one.

What's YOUR phobia? Click here to find out.

Still Life & Van Gogh

So I finally enrolled in two courses: Drawing Fundamentals and Graphic Design Studio I at UC Berkeley Extension. These are my two most recent projects from my drawing class. The teacher is an amazing artist and knows how to make you feel at ease during class. I never feel as though homework is an obligation but more of something I enjoy and miss. I can see my drawing skills gradually progressing and I can't deny that I love hearing the "oohs" and "aahs." It motivates me to draw more and continue to put care into my artwork.

More to come from my graphic design class so stay tuned...
